Chinchilla Facts
Many animal babies are born with all their fur, or complete with feathers, but the chinchilla kit is one of the few animals that is born with its eyes wide open. Even puppies are born with their eyes closed!

Chinchillas cannot get their fur wet, so instead of bathing in water, chinchillas use volcanic ash to clean their fur. This ash is found in the mountains where chinchillas live in the wild. When chinchillas are kept as pets, the chinchillas owner must purchase ash for the chinchilla to bathe in several times a week.

Chinchillas have very special little hands that can grab and hold items in much the same way that a human grabs and holds items.

Chinchillas are highly unique because they are one of the few species in the wild that are monogamous. This means that they choose a partner, and keep that same partner for life.

While all chinchillas are small in size, especially compared to more common mammals like dogs and cats, the chinchilla’s body size is interesting because unlike most other mammal groups, the chinchilla females are usually a bit larger than the males. This is seen more often in spiders, and even birds, but very rarely in mammals.

Most wild chinchillas are grey or brown in color, while domestic (pet) chinchillas are the more colorful, with white, beige, and violet being common.

Wild chinchillas in the Andes mountains rarely actually drink water because they eat a lot of fruits and succulent plants. Succulent plants are plants in the cactus family that hold a lot of water in them. The water inside the fruits and plants that the chinchilla eats gives them most of the water they need to live. Learn How to Draw Caricatures – For the Absolute Beginner

To draw a caricature is to simply draw an image that is very distinguishable to your model/subject’s identity with or without being photographically identical. In early forms of this genre, the type of figures used was animals to represent a certain person. A painting or any type of artwork cannot be called a caricature if the piece does not involve an actual person, because involving a real person as a model is the critical part of this genre.

Introduction
The world of elephants is a fascinating place! There is so much we can learn about them, and yet there are still mysteries about them waiting to be revealed. There may be stories you have heard about elephants. Now the question is, ”Are those stores fact or fiction? Are they true or false?”

One bit of information you may have heard is that elephants have a good memory. That is very true! It is so true, that it is believed that elephants have a better memory than humans do. Elephants can remember other elephants that they may not have seen in years. They can also remember being treated unkindly by someone even though many years may have passed.

Another story that is often thought about with elephants is, “Are they afraid of mice?” You might have heard that elephants fear mice because they can run up the elephant’s trunk. But the answer here is that this story is not true, and there is no proof of any kind to support this.

It may not surprise you know that the elephants of today are related to the Ice Age Mammoth. At one time there were over 350 different species of elephants, yet today we
have only two species left! Can you name the two species? What you may be surprised to learn is that elephants were not always the large creatures you see today. In fact, in prehistoric times, the elephant was as small as the size of a cow or pig. Would it surprise you to learn that the elephants of today are related to the sea cow known as the Manatee?

Did you know that when the elephants flap their ears they do it for a reason? Or do you know what jobs the elephants use their tusks for? An elephant’s tusk can be smaller on one side than the other. Do you know the reason why? Did you know that a female elephant will spend her whole life in one herd, while the male elephant usually live their lives alone sometime after the age of 14?

As you can see, there are many interesting things that can be learned about this tremendous sized animal with the ivory tusks. Read more…

Introduction
Sometimes when you row a boat through a water body close to a marshy land, you may notice the fallen leaves covering the surface of the water entirely. It may look pretty like a scene from Disneyland. But if you look closely, you may be able to see a pair of eyes staring at you from the water watching your every move unblinking. Scary, isn’t it? Well, the owner of those pair of eyes is even more scarier being a deadly predator. He is the king of the water and nothing can match his bite force. Yes, he’s the crocodile.
Just the very mention of crocodile is enough to make goose bumps appear on one’s skin. But what we really do not know is that those powerful jaws with teeth can also be gentle when dealing with baby crocs. Are crocodiles same as alligators or are they totally different creatures? Curious to know?
Then join us as we explore the world of crocs and understand what makes them such powerful predators with some other interesting facts. Read more…

Introduction

Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole.
Roger Caras

‘Man’s best friend.’ Is this the way you feel about your dog? I am sure you do! But do you know why domestic dogs are called man’s best friend? It’s because of their great loyalty, companionship and close relationship with humans over the years.

A dog will stick to your side through thick and thin, just like a real friend. And there are amazing stories which prove this fact. If you would like to read some of them, ask your parents to help you search online.

So, can you think of a particular dog you like? Many people have their own favorite and over the years, the American Kennel Club has published a list of the most beloved dogs. Can you guess which ones made the list?

Of course people’s likes and dislikes tend to change over time, but for most of us, our love for dogs remain the same. How do you think the dogs feel in return?

Did you know a dog can predict your behavior instinctively? He can ‘scent’ what you will do way before you do it. I know mine does. He always knows when I’m going to bathe him, and does his best to run away!

The University of Abertay in Dundee actually did a study and found this to be true. A dog’s ability to ‘predict our desires’ is so keen, perhaps future generations of dogs won’t need that much training! Pretty neat, don’t you think?

For this reason and more, dogs are renowned around the world for their constant devotion, and their right to be called… ‘Man’s best friend.’ Read more…

Introduction
Pretty in Pink!
Have you ever thought of a bird in such a way? Flamingos are beautiful birds with a dazzling display of pink feathers. Of course pink is not the only color of the Flamingos plumes. The colors can range from red to orange, white and even blue, depending on what they eat!

Flamingos live a very social life. They love to have friends and family all around, but not just one or two. Their colony can have hundreds, thousands, even tens of thousands at one time. An East African colony is famous for having more than one million members. Imagine how noisy it can get if they all squawk or honk at once!

Do you know how old Flamingos are? How long they have existed? The Smithsonian National Zoo says their ancestry goes back for 30 million years, even more! So they are very ancient birds, and one of the oldest species known to humanity.

Happily Flamingos are mostly calm, cool and collected. They love to stretch their long legs and ‘wade’ along the shore looking for food to eat. Sometimes they dine on shrimp, specifically brine-shrimp which contributes to their exotic pink tone.

Even though human development has reduced their habitat to some extent, Flamingos still thrive in the coastal regions of South and Central America including the West Indies, the Galapagos Islands and other areas. Their colorful species are a beautiful part of life’s great mosaic of natural wonders. Read more…
